It has been reported that the federal government is withdrawing the legal protection granted to Twitter. This has created opportunities for individual comments posted on Twitter to be considered as the company’s opinion and action to be taken.
WhatsApp and Facebook have agreed to the new IT rules that have been in place in India since May 25. But Twitter did not accept the rule.
According to sources in the Ministry of Information Technology, the legal protection provided to Twitter will be removed in this situation.
On June 5, in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, a video was posted on Twitter showing a Muslim man having his beard removed and being attacked by a mob claiming to be Vande Mataram and Jai Shri Ram. The federal government has asked Twitter to delete the video, saying it was misinformation. But it was not accepted by the Twitter administration.
This is the situation in which the Uttar Pradesh State Police commented on the incident. In it, it has no religious background. The two sides clashed over a trade issue. The Muslim man was attacked by a gang of 6 people. But Twitter said it was turning it into a religious issue.
Following this, the Uttar Pradesh State Police recorded the first information report on Twitter inciting religious violence against some journalists. However the Twitter users who posted this video did not delete it. Uttar Pradesh state police have accused Twitter of not taking action to delete the video.
It is in this context that the federal government has decided to withdraw legal protection. Although no official information has been released, it has been reported by several leading English media outlets in the IT sector.
Experts in the field say that if a similar trend continues, the Twitter website in India is likely to be paralyzed soon.
