A woman who started her electoral politics as an independent candidate has today been sworn in as the first woman Deputy Chief Minister of the state.

Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh announced yesterday that KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida will be sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers along with him.
Assembly elections in the state of Odisha coincided with the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. BJP won 78 seats out of total 147 seats. The Biju Janata Dal, which has been the ruling party for the last 24 years, won only 51 seats.
The Congress Party has won a total of 14 seats in this state. CPI (M) and IND won one seat each.
Today, for the first time in the 90-year history of the Odisha Assembly, a woman will be sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister. That opportunity has been given to Pravathi Parita.
Regarding this, Rajnath Singh wrote in his X post, “I am pleased to announce that Mohan Charan Maji has been unanimously elected as the President of the Odisha BJP Legislative Party.
He is a young and energetic party worker. He will take oath as the new Chief Minister of Odisha and take the state on a path of prosperous development. Congratulations to him.”
Who is BJP leader Pravati Parida?: BJP leader Pravati Parida hails from Nimapara. A lawyer by profession, he completed his LLB from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. After that he enrolled himself as an Advocate in Odisha High Court.
After working as a lawyer for many years, Paritha joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. She first served as the women’s wing president of the BJP in Odisha. His name is Shyam Sundar Naik.
Pravathi Paritha has been elected as MLA for the first time from Nimapara constituency. He was defeated by BJD candidate Sameer Ranjan Das in 2014 and 2019 elections.
He has contested four times in this Nimapara constituency. This time he got 95430 votes defeating Biju Janata Dal candidate by 4588 votes.
BJP last won this constituency in 2004. After that from 2004 to 2019 Biju Janata Dal candidates were winning the elections. After 15 years BJP has won here again.
In the 2009 elections, he got only 6,820 votes as an independent. After that he fielded successively as a BJP candidate.
