A female inspector and her driver of the Sirukanur police station in Trichy district have been ‘suspended’ for selling confiscated liquor bottles.
Sumathi (50) was working as an inspector at Sirukanur police station in Trichy district. His jeep driver is Ettu Raja (40). More than 2,000 bottles of liquor, which were illegally sold during the curfew, were confiscated and kept safe at the police station.
Police Inspector Sumathi and Ettu Raja decided to sell them as the price of a bottle in the counterfeit market was over Rs.500. The confiscated liquor bottles were sold by the driver Raja and the money was taken by the inspector Sumathi. The remaining bottles were taken by some guards at the same station.
Complaints were lodged with the Trichy Central Zone Police Chief Balakrishnan. The investigation revealed that it was true that bottles of wine were sold. Following this, Inspector Sumathi and Ettu Raja were suspended following the suspension of Trichy Goods Police Deputy Chief Radhika.
