The conflict between the Maratha caste and other backward castes in the state is intensifying as the Maharashtra state assembly elections are about to take place. This extreme divide between the two castes poses a major challenge to the ruling BJP coalition government.
Elections to the Maharashtra state assembly will be held in October. The BJP-led NDA relied heavily on the state of Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha elections. But it was the All India alliance that won the most seats in Maharashtra. This came as a shock to the BJP alliance.
Maharashtra assembly elections are going on now. BJP’s allies in Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress, are already struggling. On the other hand, in Maharashtra, the conflict between the Marathas and OBCs has reached its peak.
The Marathas are leading a fierce struggle to include them in the list of other backward castes and to provide them with reservation. Manoj Jarange is leading these protests. But Marathas should never be included in the OBC list; Those castes are fighting that their reservation rights will be lost due to this. Insisting on this, Lashman Haque and Navnath Waghre of those castes have been on a continuous hunger strike for the last 10 days.
Maratha leader Manoj Jarange has strongly opposed this hunger strike. Manoj Jarange says that the ruling BJP coalition government in Maharashtra is the reason for such a split between the two big castes.
The BJP leadership in Delhi is frozen in fear that the intense conflict and division between the two major castes in Maharashtra will cause a major setback in the assembly elections. Reports in Mumbai say that the BJP top brass has ordered the state leaders to end this as soon as possible.
