The Chennai Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in one or two places in the Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts of Tamil Nadu and moderate showers in the rest of the Western Ghats and Kanyakumari Tirunelveli districts in the next 24 hours.
The southwest monsoon has intensified in the hilly districts of the Western Ghats in Tamil Nadu. The Met Office has forecast heavy rains in the Nilgiris. The Chennai Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in one or two places in the Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts of Tamil Nadu in the next 24 hours due to the southwest monsoon.
The coastal districts and adjoining districts and the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Chennai and Puthuvai will experience light to moderate rain with thundershowers at one or two places due to heat wave.
Thundershowers will develop at a few places in Tirupur, Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi and inland districts along the Western Ghats on the 21st and 22nd.
The Met Office has forecast light to moderate showers in a few places in other districts and parts of Puduvai and Karaikal.
For Chennai, the sky will be partly cloudy for the next 48 hours. There may be light rain in a couple of places in the city. The maximum temperature is 38 and the minimum temperature is 20 degrees Celsius.
Fishermen should not go to Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and the northern Andaman coasts till the 22nd as strong winds are likely in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, the Met office said.
