Mandi Kumari, a contract health worker, carries a vaccine box across the river carrying her one-and-a-half-year-old child on her back.
Not only this, children living in Mahoutan in Latehar area of Jharkhand state should be vaccinated.
Mandi, who works at the Setma Health Sub-Center, has been doing vaccination work in eight villages. All the villages can be reached by walking about 35 km across the dense forest and river.
He spoke to reporters as he crossed the river carrying his baby on his back. This is nothing new to me. I have worked like this before. I joined the task force three months ago and am now on maternity leave. Simply put, I am carrying the baby on my back.
Many villages are across the river. But isn’t this river deep? But you cannot cross this river during the rainy season. Therefore, children in these villages should be vaccinated for their age before the onset of monsoon. When the water of the river is even up to my chest, I will boldly cross. When he rises above it, he says he cannot go to these villages.
He says he has to walk more than 40km a day in forests and rivers.
Many of the villages he visited were under the control of the Naxalites. Establishing medical facilities is still a major challenge for the government.
