A consultative meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be held on the 24th to discuss the re-granting of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and the holding of Assembly elections there.
Leaders including Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah have been invited to attend the meeting.
People’s Democratic Party leader Mehmood Mufti is scheduled to hold consultations with senior party leaders on the issue.
Earlier in the day, Home Minister Amit Shah held consultations on development plans for Jammu and Kashmir. It was attended by Deputy Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Home Secretary Ajay Balla.
In this context, the most important decision is expected to be reached at the consultation meeting to be held on the 24th.
In 2019, Section 370 of the Special Status Grant Act for Jammu and Kashmir was repealed and made a Union Territory. Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two Union Territories, Ladakh.
Prior to the decision, several leaders, including Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah, were placed under house arrest. Protests erupted across the country.
It is now considered political diplomacy to reconsider state status and call on all three former chief ministers.
The BJP has been cutting back on its political activities since the 2019 Corona epidemic. In this context, the consultation meeting on June 24 is seen as a prelude to the BJP resuming political activities across the country.
