A lesson on actress Tamannaah in a class 7 textbook in a private school in Karnataka has sparked controversy. The parents of the students have lodged a complaint with the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in this regard. They scolded class 7 students that teaching about actresses is unnecessary.
Government and private schools in Tamil Nadu have the same balanced curriculum. But, that is not the case in other states. Private schools design their own curricula.
Tamannaah: Meanwhile, parents of children studying at Sindhi High School in Heppal, Karnataka have filed a complaint at the police station. In other words, they have complained about actress Tamannaah in their children’s textbooks.
Schools have recently opened in the state of Karnataka as well. The book provided by that private school includes lessons on Tamannaah. The disgruntled parents, who came to know about this, first brought it to the notice of the school administration. However, the school management did not take any action in this matter.
Complaint: Dissatisfied with the lack of action, the parents have lodged a complaint with the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Karnataka Commission for Primary and Secondary Schools.
In that particular subject, there are comments about many successful people in the Sindhi community including actor Ranveer Singh. However, the public did not say anything about it. They objected to the comments regarding Tamannaah.
What subject: A chapter on Sindhis is included as a subject in the syllabus given for class 7 in that school. The subjects are titled Life after Partition: Migration in Sindh 1947 to 1962. Since the Sindhis are a linguistic minority, it describes their society and culture. The reason for the controversy is that it contains comments about Tamannaah.
Why the complaint: One of the parents who complained said that we have no objection to our children learning about another culture. But why is there a lesson about the actress for 7th standard children.. This is what we are against, he said. The parents have also complained that the school management is threatening to give them DC if they raise any issues in this regard.
Parents also say that our children can freely read about celebrities who have dominated the film industry. There is nothing wrong with that. But if they know about the actress like this, then they will search about it on the internet. As a result, they may end up viewing unnecessary content, he said.
What should be done: According to some people who know the details about this, after the school books are printed, whether it is to add or delete something, the board of the school should first approve it. Therefore, the parents should first file a complaint with the board in this regard, he said.
