The police arrested 2 women employees who stole 1.15 lakhs in a ritualistic manner while they were counting the money offerings at Thiruthani Murugan temple.
Tiruthani in Tiruvallur district is the most famous 5-baya temple of Lord Muruga. Every day tens of thousands of devotees from different parts of Tamil Nadu, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka visit Thiruthani and visit Lord Muruga.
Donations: In order to pay their dues, they leave offerings including gold, silver, jewelry and money in the bills in the mountain temple.
It is customary to open and count the money offerings paid by the devotees every month in the presence of the Joint Commissioner of the temple. More than 150 temple employees, volunteers, temple temporary workers, will engage in money collection work in Devar Mandapam, which can be called the Vasantha Mandapam of the mountain temple, in the presence of Arunachalam, the Officer-in-Charge of the temple.
Offering: As such yesterday, the temple bills were opened in the presence of Temple Joint Commissioner Arunachalam (in-charge) for the offering of bills. More than 100 people, including temple staff and temporary workers, were involved in counting the offerings.
Bill counting has started at 7 am. At 9.30 in the morning, two women were recorded in the CCTV camera as if they were taking the money and hiding it.. Seeing this, the other employees there checked the 2 women.. That’s when they were shocked to see that both of them were wearing men’s underwear.
Undergarment: It was found that Rs.1 lakh 15 thousand 790 rupees was stolen inside the undergarment. Immediately, a complaint was made to the Thiruthani police on behalf of the temple administration… The police also rushed, registered a case and interrogated the 2 women.
These 2 women are working as permanent employees in Tiruthani Murugan Temple.. One is Thenmozhi.. 35 years old.. Thenmozhi from Veeramangalam village is working as Sruthi player in the temple.
Vyjayanthi: Another name is Vyjayanthi. 44 years old. He is working as a cleaner on contract basis. Vyjayanthi hails from Nagapoondi near RK Pettah. Subsequently, the police arrested the 2 female employees and put them in jail. The police confiscated the stolen bill money and handed it back to the temple administration.
That is, the 2 women, while counting the bill money, stole the money nicely and went to the lavatory of the hill temple. There they have hidden the money in their underwear and come back to the bill counting area. That’s when they are caught on camera. Eventually both of them confessed to stealing the money.
Investigation: As both of them are employees, it is possible that they are also involved in counting bills every time. Therefore, the Tiruthani police are also investigating about how many days they have been stealing the bills like this.
