At least 50 people, including women and three children, were killed in a stampede at a religious event in Uttar Pradesh’s Hadhras on Tuesday, officials said.
There was a stampede when the ‘Satsangam’ (prayer meeting) took place. It showed several bodies from the social welfare center being brought there in buses and tempos in the presence of wailing relatives.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken note of this incident and on his orders, a committee has been constituted to investigate the incident. President Draupadi Murmu also condoled with the families of the victims.
“We have recovered 27 bodies, of which 25 are women and two are men. Some of the injured have been taken to hospitals. We have heard that there was a stampede during a ‘satsang’,” said Dr Umesh, chief medical officer of Eta. Kumar Tripathi.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Eta, Rajesh Kumar said three children were among those killed in a stampede in a village under Sikandra Rao police station limits in Hadhras.
“So far, 27 bodies have been sent to the hospital, including 23 women and three children,” Mr Kumar said.

In a note on X, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed officials to carry out relief and rescue operations on a war-time basis and provide proper treatment to the injured. Two state ministers, Lakshmi Narayan Chaudhary and Sandeep Singh, have left for the village and the chief secretary and director general of police have also been sent there.
Condoling the families of the deceased, he said a committee has been constituted to investigate the incident. The committee will be headed by Additional Director General of Police Agra and Commissioner Aligarh.
In a post by Ex-President Draupadi Murmu, the incident was heart-wrenching.
The news of the death of many devotees including women and children in the accident in Hadhras district of Uttar Pradesh is heartbreaking. I offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. ,” he posted in Hindi.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Eta Medical College. Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Pratap Singh said the accident took place at Bullerai village under Sikandarao police station limits of Hadhras district during the Satsang of Bole Baba. Eta SSP Rajesh Kumar Singh said that a religious event was going on in Mughalkarhi village of Hadhras district when a stampede broke out. So far 50 bodies including 46 women, 3 children and 1 man have arrived at Eta Hospital. Further investigation is underway. The bodies of these 50 people are being identified.
After the satsang there was a rush. Notably, many cool videos and pictures linked to the Hadhras Stampede have surfaced on social media. Many dead bodies are seen being loaded into autos and being taken to hospitals in trucks. A video also showed several women lying lifeless on the ground.
