AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami has clarified that there will be no alliance with BJP even in 2026 elections, when the AIADMK suffered a heavy defeat in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
The results of the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections were declared on June 4. The DMK and its allies won a landslide victory in 40 constituencies in Tamil Nadu. AIADMK, which was the main opposition party in Tamil Nadu, went to the 3rd place in many places. BJP came second in these constituencies.
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami met the media regarding the election results and answered various questions. Then alliance with BJP again? The question was posed. Denying this, Edappadi has clarified that there is no alliance with the BJP in the 2026 elections as well.
He said, “There are many differences between the assembly elections and the Lok Sabha elections. If assembly elections come, people will vote in our favour. Both the DMK and AIADMK parties have alternated success and failure. Many parties campaigned on the power of government and money. I alone campaigned on behalf of AIADMK. Premalatha campaigned on behalf of Demudika.
We should not talk about what happened and say that we would have won if we had an alliance with BJP. Annamalai had many dreams before the election. He speaks like this because the dream of Annamalai did not come true. No more alliance with BJP. Some are trying to create confusion within the party by joining forces with the enemy. AIADMK will be strong again. Victory and defeat in elections cannot be taken as setbacks. National parties are exploiting us till victory. Not found out later.
We got 1% more votes in 2024 election than in 2019 parliamentary election. This is a victory for AIADMK. As far as the vote percentage is concerned, it has been reported in the press that the BJP has grown in Tamil Nadu. In 2014, BJP-led National Democratic Alliance was formed in Tamil Nadu. The alliance got 18.80% votes. In this election of 2024, the vote percentage of that alliance was 18.28%.
Thus, they got 0.62% votes less than in 2014 elections. Therefore, it is saddening to see the news in the media that the BJP has got the highest percentage of votes in Tamil Nadu. DMK alone got 33.52% votes in the 2019 parliamentary elections. However, it got only 26.93% votes in 2024 elections. 6.51% votes are down.
In the 2019 election, the DMK alliance got a vote percentage of 53.29%. In the 2024 election, DMK-led India Alliance got a vote percentage of 46.97%. 6.32% votes decreased from last election. “Comparing to this, only AIADMK’s vote percentage has increased in Tamil Nadu,” he said.
