Central Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the investigation into the Kallakurichi illict liquor should be handed over to the CBI.
Talking to the media in Delhi about this, he said that 56 people have died after drinking illict liquor in Kallakurichi. He said more than 200 people are still in hospital in a critical condition, most of them belonging to the lower classes. He also said that he strongly condemns the incident.
He questioned why Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and others did not raise their voices regarding the issue of Kallakurichi illict liquor, and asked how the smuggling was found when licensed liquor was available in government-run ‘Tasmac’ shops.
Nirmala Sitharaman also insisted that the CBI should investigate the incident.
