Supporters of MLA Janakumar, seeking ministerial berth, wore black shirts and waved BJP flags to protest the party leadership.
In Puducherry, the NRC-BJP alliance won the assembly elections and came to power. Rangasamy took over as the Chief Minister and Selvam as the Speaker. The cabinet did not take responsibility even after almost 50 days of the election.
Namchhivayam and Janakumar were earlier nominated as ministers in the BJP. MLAs in BJP demanded ministerial post for themselves. Thereafter, the details of cases against Janakumar started being sent to the top.
Notably, Jankumar owes the government Rs 38 crore and Rs 45 lakh in taxes. There are 2 cases pending in the Income Tax Department. Appeals have been made in two more cases. The chargesheet has been filed in a Puducherry court for failing to provide factual information in the affidavit, when he contested the last Kamaraj Nagar constituency bypoll in the Congress.
As many people have sent these details to the BJP leadership, the BJP has decided to give ministerial post to MLA Sai Saravan Kumar, who has been in the BJP for a long time and has now won in a different constituency.
After this Jankumar left for Delhi with his son Richard MLA. For the third day today, he is meeting the party leadership in Delhi and is trying for a ministerial post. But the above refused.
His supporters stormed the BJP office in Pondicherry on Saturday, tore a banner and staged a sit-in demanding Janakumar’s ministerial post. He was tried under 3 sections.
His supporters, wearing black shirts and carrying a BJP flag, staged a sit-in near the statue of Periyar on Kamaraj Road, demanding a ministerial berth for Jankumar. As promised, the BJP raised slogans urging Jankumar to become a minister.
“The BJP has assured the Jankumar MLA that he will be given a ministerial post. He is currently being denied the minister’s post. The BJP leadership should keep its promise. We will continue to fight for it,” the protesters said.
In such a situation, the police reached there and pacified the protesters and drove them away.
