Addressing the last budget session of the Modi 2.0 regime, President Draupadi Murmu said that more than 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty in the last 10 years.
He also said that this is something that gives new hope to every poor person.
In this case, an organization called NCAER has recently published a study. The NCAER said the report was prepared based on data from the Indian Human Development Survey.
It is also said that the Tendulkar Committee has estimated India’s poverty rate using the inflation-adjusted poverty line. According to it, India’s poverty rate has come down to 8.5 percent from 21 percent in 2011-2012.
Of this, 3.2 percent are born into poverty and 5.3 percent are pushed into poverty by unforeseen accidents in life.
According to the report, poverty in rural India fell from 24.8 per cent to 8.6 per cent and in urban areas from 13.4 per cent to 8.4 per cent.
According to India’s Niti Aayog CEO PVR Subramaniam, the poverty level in India may be less than 5 percent based on household consumption expenditure data provided by the Indian Bureau of Statistics.
The NCAER report clearly mentions that more food subsidy is provided by the central government through the public distribution system and people are benefited more through various welfare schemes, which is the reason for the reduction in poverty rate in India.
The central government, which has been giving priority to social security for 10 years, is implementing measures to uplift the poor people in the economy. Due to this, it is said that India’s poverty has reduced significantly.
It has been stated in this thesis that the government, which is paying full attention to the proper protection of the poor in the social structure, economic development for them, and welfare programs for them, can definitely eliminate poverty in India.
