After the death of a schoolgirl in Kallakurichi in 2022, the special investigation team conducted an investigation with Dravida Mani, West District Secretary of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, for more than an hour in connection with the riots that broke out in the school premises.
A protest on July 17 turned into a riot following the mysterious death of Class XII student Smt.
The then Tamil Nadu DGP Shailendrababu ordered the Special Investigation Division police to arrest those involved in the riots. Subsequently, the Special Investigation Division police arrested many people with video evidence and CCTV footage.
Following this riot, various opinions were expressed on various social media sites in Tamil Nadu regarding the death of the school girl. In this case, action was taken against people, YouTubers and YouTube channels who created WhatsApp groups and added members to them to incite riots and posted information and comments to incite riots.
Subsequently, the case was transferred to the CBCID police and the investigation was ongoing, and a case was registered against Kaniyamur Shakti School principal Ravikumar, secretary Shanti, school principal Sivasankaran, chemistry teacher Hari Priya, and mathematics teacher Keerthika. All of them were arrested and jailed as a case was registered against them under the sections of incitement to suicide and harassing a security guard. Later they petitioned the court and got bail and came out.
The case was pending in Villupuram District Principal Chief Criminal Court. The CBCID police who were investigating the case filed a report in this regard. Following the conclusion of the investigation, a 1152-page charge sheet was filed before Justice Pushparani.
It has been mentioned that there was no reason for the suicide of the student Smt., and only a motive for suicide, and the witnesses stated that there was no intervention of the principal Ravikumar, secretary Shanti and the teachers of the school. It was also reported that the five accused in the case were not responsible for the student’s death in the crime report filed by the CBCID.
In this case, the case was filed in the Kallakurichi District Chief Criminal Judicial Arbitration Court, and a case was filed in the Madras High Court on behalf of the school administration. The petition was also filed against Cuddalore West District Secretary Dravida Mani and the student’s mother, who formed a WhatsApp group and organized the rioters in connection with the school riots.
Subsequently, the Special Investigation Team sent a summons to Dravida. In this case, Dravidamani along with his lawyers appeared at the Kallakurichi Kaniyamoor Riot Investigation Special Investigation Committee office yesterday. It is also reported that he was interrogated for about an hour. His statement has been recorded and a report in this regard will be filed in the court. At the same time, it is also noted that the mother of the student, Ms.Selvi, did not attend the hearing yesterday.
