In eastern Ladakh, underground bunkers have been set up at China’s Shirjab military base, nestled among the mountains on the northern shores of Pangang Lake. The satellite photos of this Chinese military base released by the United States have caused shock. A news package about it.
One of the most popular lakes in Leh Ladakh, Pangong Lake is located at an altitude of nearly 4,350 meters. It is the highest salt water lake in the world. The lake is situated in the middle of dry mountains all around.
Known as the “Lake of the High Grassland”, Pangong Lake is beautiful as it changes its colors to blue, green and red at different times. About one-third of the 160-km-long Pangong Lake is claimed by India and two-thirds by China.
The war tension that started in May 2020 in this area, which had no human movement until about three years ago, continues till now. Indian army is stationed on one side of Pangang lake and Chinese army is stationed on the other side.
While several rounds of military commander-level talks are going on between the two countries, China does not seem to have stopped its aggressive activities in the Indian border area.
A Chinese military base has been set up in the area around Pangang Lake in eastern Ladakh. Underground bunkers have also been built in the area. Storage depots for weapons, fuel and armored vehicles have been created.
This Sirjab military base of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is located among the mountains on the northern shore of Pangang Lake. The Sirjap military base serves as the headquarters of the Chinese military forces stationed around Lake Panggang.
The Sirjab Army base is located 5 km from the Line of Control. It is shocking that China is building this military base in a place claimed by India.
Reports suggest that China will build this military base between 2020 and 20201. Over the past few years, China has been continuously trying to strengthen itself along the Indian border. As part of this, China is building roads and bridges on the other side of the Line of Actual Control.
Satellite images taken last May show various features of the Sirjab military base.
At Sirjab Army Base, there are eight sloping entrances to a large underground bunker. Similarly, there is another small bunker near the big bunker. The small bunker has five entrances.
Large buildings were constructed for Sirjab Army Headquarters. Also, shelters for army personnel and covered military armored vehicle parking areas have also been set up. Experts say these shelters are also set up to protect military vehicles from airstrikes.
China has built roads in the Ladakh border area that cannot be captured by satellites. Sirjab Army Headquarters is connected to these roads by internet technology. Thus, when necessary, artillery and military armored vehicles can be easily brought to the border area, experts have said.
There has been no official comment from the Indian Army regarding this.
After the China border standoff in 2020, India is improving its border infrastructure. India has increasingly built roads, bridges, tunnels, airfields and helipads to transport military logistics across the border.
Experts have said that China is creating heavy war tension with its military activities on the borders of Tibet, Philippines and India.
