The German intelligence agency had already identified in 2020 that the COVID-19 virus had leaked from a Chinese laboratory. However, the government at that time allegedly suppressed this information, according to a newly released report that has caused widespread controversy.
Scientists believe that the coronavirus, which wreaked havoc across the world, originated from a tiny bat hidden in a cave in China.
The virus severely disrupted the social and economic structures of countries worldwide. However, the exact manner and timeline of how it spread from bats to humans remain uncertain.
The coronavirus was first detected in Wuhan, China, at the end of 2019. It subsequently spread globally, leading the World Health Organization (WHO) to officially declare COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
The disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has claimed over seven million lives worldwide. Additionally, more than 757.2 million people have been infected, with India alone reporting over 500,000 deaths.
Years later, two major German news organizations have reported that German intelligence had already determined in 2020 that the virus had leaked from a laboratory in Wuhan, China.
According to reports from Zeit and Suddeutsche Zeitung, German intelligence concluded in 2020 that the coronavirus had originated from the Wuhan laboratory.
Furthermore, these findings were not shared with Western nations, according to the report.
In January 2020, as COVID-19 began spreading globally, German intelligence launched a secret operation called ‘Project Saaremaa’ to determine the origin of the virus.
Experts in gathering classified information from foreign governments and scientific institutions were involved in this initiative.
These intelligence officials reportedly obtained undisclosed data, internal documents from Chinese research institutions, and research papers from 2019 and 2020.
One of the key findings was that the Chinese government had a deep understanding of the early spread and consequences of the coronavirus, according to German intelligence.
Additionally, German intelligence found 95% of the evidence confirming that the COVID-19 virus originated in China.
The administration led by then-German Chancellor Angela Merkel allegedly withheld this information from the public, as stated in the report.
Current German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has refused to comment on the report.
Documents indicate that the German intelligence report was shared with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Based on this information, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) firmly concluded that the coronavirus likely originated from a Chinese government-owned laboratory.
China has consistently denied allegations that the virus leaked from a Wuhan laboratory.
The report states that a laboratory leak led to a global catastrophe.
It suggests that the Chinese government turned a minor accident into a worldwide disaster, and the repercussions of this mistake continue to affect the world today.
