50 devotees from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi went to Sivagori temple in Kashmir in a bus. Then, yesterday evening, they left from there for the famous Mata Vaishnava Devi temple at Katra.
While traveling to Poni area of Riasi district, the terrorists who were hiding in a place suddenly launched a barrage of attack on the bus. Specifically, they targeted the driver. As the driver lost control, the bus left Sailai and crashed into a nearby gorge.
9 people died in this incident. 41 people were injured. 10 of them were shot. All 41 injured persons were admitted to 3 hospitals in Jammu and Riasi districts for treatment. Doctors said their condition is stable.
The identities of the 9 victims have been revealed. Among them were driver Vijaykumar and conductor Arunkumar. Both are from Riasi district.
Also, Rajinder Prasad Pande Sakhani, Mamata Sakhani, Pooja Sakhani and her 2-year-old son Ditu Sakhani from Jaipur, Rajasthan, Shivam Gupta, Ruby and 14-year-old boy Anurag Verma from Uttar Pradesh are among the victims. Their bodies have been sent to their respective states, officials said.
Meanwhile, army, police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel have been deployed at the incident area. They are involved in a manhunt to nab the terrorists responsible for the attack.
The area has dense forests and valleys. It is believed that terrorists may be lurking there. A search is underway with the help of drones and sniffer dogs. They are searching not only in Riasi district but also in neighboring Rajouri district.
Also, a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also reached Riasi district. It is working in coordination with the police who are investigating the incident. To help the victims, the district administration has opened a control room in Riasi district.
Meanwhile, Kashmir Governor Manoj Singha personally met 18 people undergoing treatment at the Jammu Government Medical College Hospital and inquired about their well-being.
