The famous Mandaikadu Bhagwati Amman temple in Kanyakumari district caught fire on the 2nd. Of these the sanctum sanctorum of the temple was completely burnt and damaged.
Following this the devotees demanded the renovation of the century old temple in their presence.
On this occasion, Srinath, a famous astrologer from Wayanad, Kerala, and Melshanthi Vishnu Namboodiri, a former Melshanthi of the Bhagavathi Amman Temple on the Thiruvananthapuram River, performed the Prasana according to Kerala tradition.
Speaking to reporters after attending the event, Sekarbapu, Minister of Hindu Charities said, “The first phase of the investigation has revealed that the negligence of the temple staff was the cause of the fire. Action will be taken against the staff once the final investigation report is received.”
Rs 50 lakh has been earmarked for the roof work of the temple and Rs 35 lakh for firefighting and other works. The roof will be worked according to the ideas expressed in the presence. If additional funds are required to renovate the temple, additional funds will be allocated on the orders of the Chief Minister, ”he said.
