In Maharashtra, which has the largest number of parliamentary constituencies after Uttar Pradesh, the BJP could not get the expected victory. What is the reason for this? Let’s see about that..!
Maharashtra has been one of the most politically unstable states in the last five years.
The Lok Sabha elections, which were conducted in 7 phases, were held in 5 phases in Maharashtra, which has 48 constituencies.
Due to the tense political environment, the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress parties split into two. Hence, three types of coalitions emerged in Maharashtra. There were three types of competitions. That means BJP, Congress, Sarath Pawar, Ajit Pawar, Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray had competition in the election.
BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress and Rashtriya Samaj Pakja formed an alliance as Mahayutti.
Out of the 28 constituencies contested, the BJP has won 9 seats. Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena contested in 14 seats and in 7 seats, Ajit Pawar’s National Vada Congress contested in 5 seats and won only one seat.
On the other hand, the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena and Sarath Bawar’s Nationalist Congress formed an alliance called Maha Aakadi. Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena contested in 21 seats and won 9 seats.
Congress contested in 17 seats and won 13 seats. Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress contested 10 seats and won 8 of them.
There has been a major decline in the state where BJP’s NDA won 41 seats in 2014 and 2019 elections.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP alliance won all six seats in Mumbai. But this time only in North Mumbai BJP’s candidate Union Minister Piyush Goyal has won.
Eknath Shinde Shiv Sena has won the Mumbai North West constituency by a margin of just 48 votes. Congress and Uddhav Thackeray won the remaining seats.
The idea that the BJP is responsible for the split of the Shiv Sena party and the sympathy for Uddhav Thackeray is seen as the reason why the BJP coalition failed to win votes in Mumbai.
Next, as far as Marathwada is concerned, it can be seen that the BJP has become a victim of the anger of the Marathas over the reservation issue.
In the 2019 elections, BJP won 4 seats and Shiv Sena 3 seats out of 8 constituencies namely Nanded, Peet, Jalna, Latur, Aurangabad, Hingoli, Osmanabad and Parbani.
But this time though, this time, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena has won three seats and Congress three seats. This is a big loss for the BJP alliance.
Next, Vidarbha constituencies in eastern Maharashtra were once a Congress stronghold. In 2019, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance had won 8 constituencies out of 10 seats in Vidarbha with four each.
But in this election, the BJP is lagging behind in these constituencies. Even Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who contested in Nagpur, has won by a smaller margin than last time.
Overall, these election results show that both Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar have greatly reduced the BJP’s popular influence in Maharashtra.
In this case, assembly elections are coming soon in Maharashtra. BJP workers say that they have to work hard to recover what they have lost.
