Prime Minister Modi has reportedly decided to appoint his wife’s sister as a ‘check’ to Telugu Desam Party leader Chandrababu Naidu, who is seeking the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. Will Chandrababu Naidu agree to this? That raises a big question. Because political observers say that there is a big plan of BJP behind this.
The BJP did not get a majority to form the government at the center in the Lok Sabha elections. As a result, the BJP, which won 240 seats, has regained power at the center with the help of 52 MPs in its alliance, including 16 MPs from the Telugu Desam Party of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and 12 MPs from the United Janata Dal Party of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Prime Minister Modi has become the Prime Minister for the 3rd time. In addition, 72 people have taken charge as Union Ministers. In this, Telugu Desam Party has been given the responsibility of 2 Cabinet Ministers. While 4 cabinet ministers and one minister of state have asked for the post, BJP has given only 2 cabinet minister posts.
Thus Chandrababu Naidu is determined to get Lok Sabha Speaker responsibility and special status for Andhra state. Similarly, Nitish Kumar’s United Janata Dal party is eyeing the post of Speaker.
But the BJP does not want to give up the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. Because as far as the coalition government is concerned, confusion can happen anytime. Also Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar are known for switching alliances. Thus, if they are to be kept under control, it is best to appoint a BJP MP to the post of Speaker, the “Tamarai” leaders think.
This is because the Speaker has the most power when alliance parties withdraw support, trust vote, taking action under the anti-defection law etc. Realizing this, Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar are targeting the post of Speaker to keep the BJP under their control, but the BJP refuses to give it.
In this context, Prime Minister Modi is said to be planning to select Andhra Pradesh BJP president and Andhra Rajahmundry Lok Sabha MP Dagupathi Brundeswari for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. And he feels that by electing him, he can give a check to Chandrababu Naidu. Dagupathi Purandeshwari is the daughter of late actor and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh NT Ramara. Chandrababu Naidu is married to another daughter of NT Ramara, Bhubaneswari.
Accordingly, Dagupathi Purandeswari-Bhuvaneswari are siblings. After the death of NT Rama Rao, Chandrababu Naidu, son-in-law of Bhubaneswar’s husband NT Ram Rao, usurped the party and became its leader. This did not go down well with many members of NT Ramara’s family. Dagupathi Purandeswari in particular cut ties with Chandrababu Naidu by avoiding speaking. He joined the Congress party in 2004 and became an MP in 2009.
After that he left the Congress and joined the BJP as Telangana became a separate state from Andhra Pradesh. Last year he was appointed as the Andhra Pradesh BJP President. It was in this context that Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam and BJP formed an alliance when the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections were held together in Andhra Pradesh. Telugu Desam-BJP alliance has won both these elections.
Chandrababu Naidu also praised Dagupathi Purandeswari. He said his hard work was the reason for the party’s success. The BJP top brass feels that this will end the problem between the two families. As a result, the BJP leadership calculates that Dagupathi Purandeswari will be made Speaker and Chandrababu Naidu will forget the problems and show green flag as his wife’s sister.
But it is said that Dagupathi Purandeshwari’s anger towards Chandrababu Naidu has not subsided yet. Even though he contested the elections as a coalition, he sat on the dais with Chandrababu Naidu only when the national leaders came. Otherwise he has yet to say anything about Chandrababu Naidu. Chandrababu Naidu praises him but still he does not thank him. It is said that Dagupathi Purandeswari is angry with Chandrababu Naidu for usurping the Telugu Desam Party.
Will Chandrababu Naidu agree if he tries to give Dagupathi Purandeswari the post of Speaker? is also a big question mark. Because Dagupathi Purandeswari as Speaker may get a chance to take revenge, keeping in mind that his father NTR’s party was usurped earlier. Chandrababu Naidu has also become alert due to this. He also developed a huge headache.
That is, can we say OK to make Dagupathi Purandeshwari the speaker and end the family problem? If he says OK, will Dagupathi Purandeshwari not take revenge? If not, can we object to Dagupathi Purandeswari being given the post of Speaker? BJP has trapped Chandrababu Naidu in this trap. Let’s see what happens.
