An investigation has been launched into allegations that the French government spied on its opponents using Israeli ‘Pegasus’ spy software.
The country’s Office of Justice Enforcement said in a statement on Tuesday:
An investigation has been launched into allegations that the cell phones of journalists, human rights activists and the opposition were spied on in France using Pegasus software.
The report said that the software would be used to investigate whether personal privacy information had been compromised, whether the information had been used illegally or sold illegally.
More than a thousand anti-government cell phones have been spied on in 50 countries, including India, using Pegasus spy software developed by Israel’s NSO, according to a study by the International Media Federation.
This has raised eyebrows in those countries.
