Narendra Modi was inaugurated as the 16th Prime Minister of India on 26 May 2014. He was the first Prime Minister of India born after independence.
Narendra Modi was born on September 17, 1950 in a small town in the state of Gujarat. Although Modi was born in a family of modest means and ordinary background, his was a loving family. He knew the importance of hard work as he had faced many hardships in his youth. This motivated him to dedicate himself to the service of the people and the country. Narendra Modi started his primary education in a high school in ‘Vadnagar’ and while studying in school, he used to help his father who ran a tea shop at the railway station.
At the age of eight, he joined himself as a member of the ‘National Volunteer Team’, popularly known as the ‘RSS’. He was very interested in politics. Thus, he joined Gujarat University and obtained his Master’s Degree in Political Science. Modi, who joined the RSS at an early age, was also the president of the student group Akila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
When the crisis was in effect in India, Modi, who actively involved himself in the protests, got to know many political leaders. Other party leaders who saw Modi’s tireless work and selfless commitment praised him highly. An ardent follower of ‘RSS’, he later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and rose to become the General Secretary of Gujarat within a year. Within a short period of time, Advani appointed Modi in-charge of ‘Gujarat’ and ‘Himachal Pradesh’ elections in 1998, and very soon five states namely ‘Himachal Pradesh’, ‘Punjab’, ‘Aryana’, ‘Chandigarh’, and ‘Jammu Kashmir’. Appointed General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party.
When Atal Bihari Vajpayee took office as Prime Minister in 1998, Modi was given the post of ‘National Secretary’. Effective in all his responsibilities, Modi became the Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001, with the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party, following the resignation of Kesubhai Patel, who was the Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 6, 2001. Later, he contested and won the by-election and resigned from his post following the “Godhra train burning” incident on February 27, 2002. However, he won the Assembly elections the same year and was re-instated as the Chief Minister.
Later, he won the election in 2007 and became the Chief Minister of Gujarat for the third time. Thus, he achieved the record of longest serving Chief Minister in Gujarat political history. Not only that, as an example of how all the people of Gujarat have benefited from the various welfare schemes undertaken by Narendra Modi’s government, he won the Gujarat state election for the fourth time in 2012 and made a great achievement in Indian politics. Modi, who worked only for the development of the state, increased the production of solar power and turned Gujarat into an electricity surplus state.
To prevent the youth from getting addicted to drugs, he banned the drug “gudka”. After the Mumbai attacks, Gujarat strengthened its coastal defense manifold. Moreover, he implemented many projects in all sectors like water, road facilities, women’s education, health, corruption-free administration, agriculture, industrial development and made Gujarat a role model for other states.

2006: India Today honored him with India’s ‘Best Chief Minister’ award.
Computer Society of India honored him with ‘e-Ratna’ award for his development in Gujarat computer industry.
2009: Chosen for Asia’s Best ‘FTI Personality’ Award.
2012: Featured on the first cover of ‘Time’ magazine as one of India’s ‘Greatest Politicians’. The Narendra Modi-led Gujarat government was hailed by the US as an example of good governance.
He transformed the state of Gujarat, which was recovering from the effects of earthquakes, into a strong contributor to India’s development. Prime Minister Modi, after taking charge as Prime Minister in May 2014, led the hopes and dreams of every Indian citizen on a journey of all-round development. The Prime Minister introduced the Anthoida policy of serving in such a way that even the last person in the queue is benefited.
On October 2, 2014, on Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, he launched the “Clean India” movement across the country.
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi formed the government for the second term, he brought some drastic measures.
Among them, triple talaq bill was brought, cancellation of special status for Kashmir, reduction of public sector banks to 12, Supreme Court permission to build Ram Temple, Citizenship Amendment Act, reservation for women, improving their participation in Parliament and inauguration of new Parliament are the most important.
And as part of the move towards doubling the income of farmers in the country, the Modi government has launched a unique Prime Minister’s Farmers Scheme through which all farmers will receive an annual sum of Rs. 6,000 as financial assistance. 14.5 crore farmers across the country are benefiting from this scheme.
Narendra Modi’s international policy actions have demonstrated India’s potential and role as a great democracy on the world stage. His speech at the United Nations was praised worldwide. He is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Nepal after 17 years, Australia after 28 years, Fiji after 31 years and Seychelles after 34 years.
Currently, in the 18th parliamentary elections, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has won 293 seats and formed the government. Modi will be re-instated as the country’s Prime Minister in a colorful ceremony at the President’s House today at 7.15 pm. After the country’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who will assume the post of Prime Minister for the 3rd consecutive term, President Drabupati Murmu administers the oath of office and the oath of secrecy.
