With China and Pakistan as major threats, Bharat is increasing its nuclear arsenal. In this news package, you can see how many nuclear weapons India has as of January 2024.
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) continues to conduct research on international conflicts, weapons, arms control and disarmament programmes.
The organization, which is supported by the Swedish government, has recently published its report for the year 2024 in the form of a book. The yearbook also details the number of nuclear weapons around the world, along with data on weapons and international security in general.
This means that as of January 2024, India has a total of 172 nuclear weapons in stock, and 8 new nuclear weapons have been developed over the previous year, the study said.
The report, which states that India is developing nuclear weapons based on plutonium produced at the Baba Atomic Research Center (BARC), suggests that India has modernized and expanded its nuclear capabilities over the past decade. It has been stated that India is making continuous efforts to develop nuclear weapons to prevent enemy attacks.
Apart from retaliating against Pakistan for cross-border terrorist attacks, India is also increasing its nuclear arsenal to counter Chinese attacks.
At present, it is also known that India is giving more importance to long-range nuclear weapons capable of hitting all targets across China.
As of 2024, Pakistan has a total of 170 nuclear weapons, the same as the previous year. The report states that Pakistan is developing nuclear weapons using highly enriched uranium, while China has a total of 500 nuclear weapons.
Last year, China had 410 nuclear weapons. Now China has added 90 new nuclear weapons to its military.
It is noteworthy that Hans M. Kristensen, director of the Nuclear Information Program of the Federation of American Scientists (FAS), said that China is expanding its nuclear arsenal faster than any other country.
China, France, India, Israel, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, UK and USA are all 9 nuclear weapon states.
These countries possess 12,121 nuclear weapons worldwide. Among them, the military stockpiles include about 9,585 nuclear warheads for immediate use, 3,904 missiles attached to aircraft, and 2,100 warships stationed at various sea levels equipped with ballistic missiles. The report also suggests that all these warships belong to either Russia or the United States.
Russia has the largest nuclear arsenal in the world. America is the second largest nuclear weapon after Russia.
Russia has 5,580 nuclear weapons and the United States has a total of 5,044 nuclear weapons, and in total, Russia and the United States have 90 percent of all nuclear weapons in the world.
