Prime Minister Modi is set to take office for a third term with the support of NDA allies
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to form a third consecutive government with the BJP-led NDA’s majority in the Lok Sabha, despite losing three Hindi states after bitter elections.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, which contested in Modi’s name, won or was ahead in 240 seats, falling short of a majority of 272, requiring the support of allies in the party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to form a government. In 2019 and 2014, it had to capture 303 and 282 seats respectively to get absolute majority.
Backed by key BJP allies N Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and other coalition parties, the NDA is leading or winning 16 and 12 seats in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar respectively. It will capture around 290 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha. In Andhra Pradesh, Telugu Desam also won the Assembly elections defeating YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP.
Prime Minister Modi, who is gearing up for a historic third term, has pledged to work with all states, regardless of which party is in power, to build a developed India.

Anurag Thakur won the Hamirpur constituency for the fifth time in a row
Union minister Anurag Thakur won the Hamirpur parliamentary seat for the fifth consecutive term, defeating Congress’ Satpal Raisada by a margin of 1,82,357 votes.
The Election Commission said the senior BJP leader secured 6,07,068 votes to 4,24,711 votes against former MLA Raisada from Una.
Expressing hope that the BJP-led NDA will once again form the government at the centre, Thakur said India has seen a lot of progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last 10 years and the process will continue.
He said that the people of Himachal Pradesh have given hundred percent support to the BJP and it will return to them once it is back in power.

The BJP-led NDA secured a simple majority, crossing the halfway mark
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has won 273 seats in the Lok Sabha elections and has secured an absolute majority. While the results for 498 constituencies have been announced by the Election Commission, the counting of votes for 45 constituencies is ongoing.
According to the tally on the Election Commission website, the BJP has already won 226 seats, its allies TDP and JDU 12 each, Shiv Sena 7, LJP (Ram Vilas) 5 and JDS and RLD 2 each.
NDA partners including Jana Sena, NCP, UPPL, AJSU, HAMS, SKM and Apna Dal (Sone Lal) won one seat each.
BJP has already won the Surat Lok Sabha seat unopposed.

INDI Bloc leaders to meet tomorrow at Khargevin’s residence to discuss plans to form government
Team India leaders will meet at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence on Wednesday evening to decide on their next strategy and whether to approach their former allies Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu to form the government.
The main opposition leaders of the alliance will meet at the Congress chief’s Rajaji Marg residence at 10 pm at 6 pm to discuss their way forward, news agency PTI quoted sources as saying. Congress has won both Lok Sabha constituencies in Manipur on Tuesday, the Election Commission said.
Alfred Gangam S Arthur won the Outer Manipur constituency by a margin of 85,418 votes defeating his nearest rival Kachui Timothy Zimik of NPF. Arthur got 3,84,954 votes and Zimik got 2,99,536 votes.
In Inner Manipur constituency, Angomsa Bimol Akhojam defeated BJP’s Thonajam Basantakumar by a margin of 1,09,801 votes. Agoj got 3,74,017 votes and Singh got 2,64,216 votes.

BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan won Vidisha Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh by a margin of 8,21,408 votes defeating his nearest rival Congress.
Former MP Chief Minister got 11,16,460 votes and Congress candidate Pratap Bhanu Sharma, a two-time Member of Parliament, got 2,95,052 votes.
This is Chauhan’s sixth win from Vidisha, which was once represented by BJP stalwarts like former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1991), Sushma Swaraj (2009 and 2014) and newspaper magnate Ramnath Goenka (1971).

Samajwadi Party candidate Awadesh Prasad defeated BJP MP Lallu Singh by a margin of 54,567 votes in the Ayodhya temple city of Faizabad parliamentary constituency.
According to Election Commission data, Prasad polled 5,54,289 votes and Lallu Singh 4,99,722 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party’s Satchidananda Pandey got 46,407 votes.
A total of 13 candidates were in the fray in the Faizabad constituency.

Jitendra Singh scored a hat-trick in Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency
BJP leader and Union Minister Jitendra Singh has won the Udhampur Lok Sabha seat for the third time defeating Congress candidate Chaudhry Lal Singh.
After maintaining a narrow lead in the early rounds of counting, Jitendra Singh won, equaling the record of veteran Congress leader Karan Singh, who held the seat in 1971, 1977 and 1980.
Singh, who had earlier won in 2014 and 2019, secured 571,076 votes and defeated Chaudhry Lal Singh by a margin of 1,24,373 votes, according to the Election Commission of India website.

After 20 years, Congress created history by winning the Nagaland constituency
Congress on Tuesday created history by winning only one Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland after 20 years, the Election Commission said.
The party has no MLAs in the Rajya Sabha.
Returning Officer for the Lok Sabha elections, Sushil Kumar Patel, told reporters that Congress candidate S Subongmeran Jameer defeated BJP ally Sumben Murry of NTPP by a margin of 50,984 votes.
Jamir got 4,01,951 votes, Murree got 3,50,967 votes and independent candidate Haitung Tungo Lodha got 6,232 votes.
This is the first major victory for the Congress since 2014 when it has no MLA in the state assembly. The party last won a Lok Sabha seat in 1999.

BJP’s Ramveer Singh Bidhuri won South Delhi
In the South Delhi constituency, BJP’s Ramveer Singh Bidhuri won by a margin of 1,24,333 votes defeating Aam Aadmi Party’s Sahi Ram Bahlwan.
Bidhuri is the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.
He was dropped by the BJP to replace outgoing MP Ramesh Bidhuri. The BJP won all seven seats in Delhi in the 2014 and 2019 general elections and is set to repeat the feat this time around.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress fielded candidates in three of the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi and the Aam Aadmi Party in four, as part of the seat-sharing agreement between the two members of the Indian Alliance.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday won Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 3,90,030 votes, bettering his mother Sonia Gandhi’s winning margin in 2019.

BJP candidate and actor Suresh Gopi won the Thrissur Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 74,686 votes, the Election Commission said.

Two Samajwadi Party candidates – Pushpendra Saroj and Priya Saroj – are set to become the youngest candidates to win a Lok Sabha election at the age of 25, while DMK’s DR Balu (82) could become the oldest member to record victory.
11 candidates above the age of 80 years and 537 candidates in the age group of 25-30 years contested the Lok Sabha elections.
Both Pushpendra Saroj (Kaushambi constituency) and Priya Saroj (Machlishahar constituency) are leading by a comfortable margin and are set to become the youngest members of the Lok Sabha at the age of 25.
Balu (82), a six-time MP from the DMK, is set to become the senior member of the Lok Sabha. He leads by a margin of 3.89 lakhs.

TK Suresh, brother of Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress president TK Shivakumar, was defeated by BJP’s CN Manjunath in Bengaluru Rural on Tuesday, a major blow to the ruling party in Karnataka. The 58-year-old three-time MP, who was the only Congress candidate to win the 2019 Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka, lost by a margin of 2,69,647 votes, considered a setback for Sivakumar.
Manjunath got 10,79,002 votes and Suresh got 8,09,355 votes.

BJP’s Mahesh Sharma wins Gautam Buddha Nagar Lok Sabha constituency
Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mahesh Sharma won for the 3rd consecutive term in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Budh Nagar by a margin of 5.59 lakh votes.
Sharma got 8,57,829 votes (59.69 per cent of the total 14,37,244 votes polled), according to Election Commission website statistics at 6.30 pm.
Samajwadi Party’s Mahendra Singh Nagar got 2,98,357 (20.76 per cent) votes and Bahujan Samaj Party’s Rajendra Singh Solanki got 2,51,615 (17.51 per cent) votes, the Election Commission said.

Mandi constituency’s BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut has led by 74,925 votes over her rival Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh. Union Minister Anurag Thakur, who is contesting for the fifth term from Hamirpur constituency, is leading by 1,62,916 votes over Congress’s Satpal Raisada, the Election Commission said.
Former state BJP president and sitting MP from Shimla Suresh Kashyap is leading with 88,295 votes while BJP candidate Rajeev Bharadwaj is leading with 2,43,173 votes.
Bharadwaj’s Congress candidate Anand Sharma conceded defeat.

In Assam, BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is leading in 11 seats and Congress in 3 seats
Of the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, the ruling BJP and its allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) are leading in 11 seats and the opposition Congress in four seats, election officials said.
BJP is leading in 8 constituencies including Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Dibrugarh, Rajya Sabha MP Kamakya Prasad Dasa in Kaziranga, MLA Ranjit Dutta in Tezpur, Sitting MP Pradhan Barua in Lakhimpur, Bijuli Kalitha Medhi in Guwahati, Darrang-Udalguri and Amar. Sing Dizzo in Tifu (ST), Parimal Shuklabaithya in Silsar (SC) and Kirbanath Malla in Karimganj are ahead of their closest rivals.
NDA constituencies AGP and UPPL are leading in Barpeta and Kokrajhar with MLAs Panibhushan Chaudhary and Joyanta Basmati respectively. For the Congress, Lok Sabha Deputy Leader of Opposition Gaurav Gogoi, Nakhon MP Pradyut Bordoloi and Dhubri MLA Ragibul Hussain are leading in Jorhat.
AIUDF chief and three-time Dhubri MP Badruddin Ajmal and BJP’s Jorhat sitting MP Topan Gogoi are among the main candidates behind.

Nota secured more than 1.7 lakh votes in the Indore Lok Sabha seat, breaking the previous record of Gopalganj.
After the Congress appealed to voters in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore to opt for the ‘None Above’ option, the Lok Sabha constituency has so far secured over 1.7 lakh votes, beating the previous record of Gopalganj in Bihar.
NOTA gives voters the option to reject all candidates in a constituency.
In the 2019 elections, Gopalganj Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar recorded the highest number of 51,660 NOTA votes, about 5 percent of the total votes cast in the constituency.
With counting underway on Tuesday, according to the latest data available on the Election Commission’s website, NOTA has so far bagged 1,72,798 votes in Indore, the second highest after BJP candidate Shankar Lalwani’s 9,90,698 votes.
All 13 other candidates in Indore have got less votes than NOTA so far.
