Hearing today: The Supreme Court will hear the petitions related to the controversial medical entrance exam NEET-UG 2024 today. Alleging irregularities in the examination held on May 5, the petition seeking an order to re-conduct it will be heard today.

Malpractice: The National Examination Agency (NDA), which conducts NEET-UG, recently filed a petition in the Supreme Court saying that canceling the exam would not be right. It should not be canceled in the absence of substantial evidence. This is likely to “severely affect” lakhs of bona fide applicants.
The Central Ministry of Education and the NTA have filed separate affidavits in the Supreme Court. Some other petitions have also been filed challenging the petitions seeking cancellation of the examination. Some petitions have been filed asking for re-examination and some petitions have been filed to ban NEET altogether.
NDA conducting the examination, in its separate affidavit, said that cancellation of the entire examination on the basis of the above factor would be detrimental to the larger public interest, particularly the equal opportunities of the students. Eligible candidates are likely to fail, it says.
