TASMAC Corruption Scandal: Tamil Nadu BJP Leader Annamalai’s Announcement
The recent revelations regarding corruption in TASMAC, the Tamil Nadu state-owned liquor retail company, have sparked widespread controversy. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids and uncovered bribery transactions exceeding ₹1,000 crore in the liquor industry.
Reacting to this, Tamil Nadu BJP State President K. Annamalai issued a strong statement on his X (formerly Twitter) account, criticizing the DMK government and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
Annamalai’s Statement
“Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is trying to divert public attention from the large-scale corruption exposed in the TASMAC scandal through the recent ED raids. Senior DMK politicians and liquor industry officials have been directly involved in this fraudulent activity.
The ED has discovered evidence that over ₹1,000 crore in bribes was exchanged between liquor manufacturers and government officials. This proves that the DMK government has been exploiting taxpayers’ money to fill its party treasury for political and personal gain.
Did M.K. Stalin knowingly allow this corruption, or is he protecting those involved? Does he still have the moral right to continue as Chief Minister?” he questioned.
BJP Announces Protest March
In response to this large-scale corruption, the Tamil Nadu BJP has announced a protest march on March 17, 2025. The protest will be held in front of the TASMAC headquarters at the Thalamuthu Natarajan Maligai in Chennai’s Egmore.
In his announcement, Annamalai stated:
“The people of Tamil Nadu have witnessed how the DMK government has deceived them by misusing the liquor sales system for their own financial gains. The BJP will stage a massive protest against this corrupt government on March 17.
We urge the people of Tamil Nadu to join us in large numbers to oppose the corrupt practices of the DMK administration.”
PMK’s Response and Political Repercussions
The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramadoss has also strongly condemned the corruption and demanded the immediate removal of the Minister for Prohibition and Excise.
In his statement, Anbumani Ramadoss said:
**”The ₹1,000 crore scam in the liquor industry is proof of how deeply rooted corruption has become under the DMK government. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin must take full responsibility for this scandal. Immediate action should be taken against the ministers, officials, and private companies involved in this crime.
Moreover, the Minister for Prohibition and Excise has no moral authority to continue in office and should be removed immediately.”**
Key Findings of the ED Investigation
🔴 The ED’s investigation revealed:
- Massive irregularities in liquor procurement and distribution agreements.
- More than ₹1,000 crore in illicit financial transactions.
- Direct involvement of government officials and politicians in the corruption scheme.
The Enforcement Directorate is continuing its probe, and more officials and politicians could be summoned for questioning.
Expected Political and Public Impact

✅ The DMK government may face increasing public scrutiny and backlash.
✅ The corruption in the liquor industry may force policy changes and stricter regulations.
✅ The ED may widen its investigation and take action against more key players.
As this corruption scandal shakes Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, the reactions of the people, opposition protests, and legal proceedings in the coming days will determine the future course of action.
