The Chennai Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in 10 districts including Perambalur, Ariyalur and Salem in Tamil Nadu.
Chennai Meteorological Center Director Puviarasan said: Due to overcast skies and heat wave prevailing in Tamil Nadu today (July 6) thunderstorms were reported in Perambalur, Ariyalur, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Pudukottai and Delta (Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai) districts. Light to moderate rain with thundershowers will occur at a few places in other districts and parts of Puduvai and Karaikal.
Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Trichy, Ariyalur, Perambalur and Kallakurichi districts will receive light to moderate rain at one or two places and other districts and Puduvai and Karaikal will receive light to moderate rain at a few places. For Chennai, the sky will be overcast for the next 48 hours. There may be light rain with thunder and lightning in some parts of the city. The maximum temperature is 37 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is 26 degrees Celsius.
From today to the 10th, strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are expected along the Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Kumari and Gulf of Mannar, coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Coastal areas of Kerala, Karnataka, parts of Lakshadweep, southwestern and central western Arabian Sea are likely to experience strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph. Therefore, fishermen are advised not to go to the above areas, he said.
