The central government plans to hold talks with four state chief ministers on the Mekedatu dam issue.
Consultations are being held with the 4 Chief Ministers regarding the smooth construction of the dam across the Cauvery.
The Karnataka government has started construction of a dam at Mekedatu, four kilometers from the Tamil Nadu border.
Other states in the south are at risk of water shortages due to the construction of dams across the Cauvery River.
Thus, Tamil Nadu is protesting against the construction of a dam across the Cauvery. Other states are also seeking alternative views.
Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Union Water Resources Minister, plans to hold talks with the Chief Ministers of the four states of Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu to find a social solution to the issue.
He said the decision on the Mekedatu issue would be taken on the basis of the views of the 4 states.
