BJP state president Annamalai has explained with evidence that the reservation for other backward people in medical studies was denied in the Congress-DMK alliance regime and reservation was given in the BJP regime itself.
In the X record released by Chief Minister M.K.Stalin, he mentioned that due to the uncompromising legal struggle carried out by DMK, 15 thousand 66 seats for medical and dental courses have been available to backward students in the last 3 academic years.
Responding to this, BJP state president Annamalai said that All India quota for medical admissions was introduced in 1986.
Annamalai said that in 2008-09, the then United Progressive Alliance government allowed reservation for other backward classes in central educational institutions but denied reservation for other backward classes in the all-India quota for medical admissions.
Annamalai has also said that the central government, which had filed a reply in 2015, had suggested the use of reservation for the states in the case of all-India reservation for other backward classes in the all-India reservation for medical admissions.
Annamalai has said that this clearly shows the central government’s stand on OBC reservation and mentioned that last year 2021, Prime Minister Modi announced the decision to provide 27 percent reservation to OBCs in the all-India quota for medical admissions.
Annamalai, who has criticized DMK for taking credit for other people’s work, has said that Chief Minister M. K. Stalin should know the history of OBC reservation in the all-India quota for medical admissions.
