BJP general secretary R Selvam is likely to be unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Puducherry Assembly.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is in power after the 15th general election in Puducherry.
My. Rangasamy has taken over as Chief Minister. Following this, the first meeting of the 15th Legislative Assembly convenes on Wednesday.
The Speaker of the Legislature is elected on that day.
BJP General Secretary R.Selvam is running for the position of Assembly President.
He filed his nomination on Monday at the Pondicherry Legislative Assembly premises. The Chief Minister. Rangasamy proposed.
BJP leader A. Namasivayam addressed the gathering.
The deadline for subsequent nominations is Tuesday (June 15) until 12 noon.
While R.Selvam had filed the petition with the support of a majority of MLAs on behalf of the ruling party alliance, no one else on the opposition side had filed the petition.
Thus R. Selvam is to be unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Legislature.
This is followed by a meeting of the legislature on Wednesday morning.
The Speaker of the Assembly will be officially declared the winner and the Speaker will be sworn in.
The Puducherry Chief Minister and the Leader of the Opposition will administer the oath of office to the Speaker.
The cabinet reshuffle is expected to take place on June 21, as both parties have not provided a list of names.
