Allegations of a ₹1,000 Crore Scam in Tamil Nadu Liquor Distilleries: BJP Leader Annamalai’s Claims
Tamil Nadu BJP State President K. Annamalai has accused the state’s liquor distilleries of being involved in a large-scale financial scam worth ₹1,000 crore. According to him, this corruption has significant political and economic implications for the state, and it mirrors similar scams that have taken place in Delhi and Chhattisgarh.
Annamalai’s Statements to the Press
While speaking to reporters at Tuticorin Airport, Annamalai stated, “Just as liquor policy scams unfolded in Delhi and Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu is now witnessing a similar large-scale corruption in its liquor sector. The Enforcement Directorate’s investigations have revealed that illicit financial dealings worth ₹1,000 crore have taken place in the state’s liquor manufacturing and distribution industry.”
He further alleged that “this scam has been executed with the direct involvement of officials under the control of the ruling DMK government. The state’s liquor policy is not being implemented transparently but is instead manipulated by private entities for their benefit. TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation) and major liquor distilleries have colluded to monopolize the industry, leading to massive financial fraud.”
Funds Used for DMK’s Election Expenses, Says Annamalai
Annamalai went on to claim that “The ₹1,000 crore illicit money generated from this liquor scam has been funneled into DMK’s election funds. This is nothing but a systematic loot of public money, which is being used for political gains. A full-fledged investigation should be conducted to uncover the truth behind this scam.”
These allegations have triggered political turmoil in Tamil Nadu. The ruling DMK has not yet issued an official response, but opposition parties have seized the opportunity to criticize the government and demand a transparent probe into the matter.
The key question remains—Are these allegations backed by concrete evidence, or are they politically motivated? The coming days may bring more clarity as government authorities and investigative agencies respond to these serious accusations.
