Coimbatore South Constituency Legislative Assembly Member and All India BJP Women’s Team President Vanathi Srinivasan in a statement issued by the Congress party can someone other than the Nehru family take decisions? He has questioned that. Vanadi Srinivasan has responded to the criticism regarding succession politics in BJP.
In a statement released by Vanathi Srinivasan, “After the first Prime Minister of the country, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, 71 ministers have been sworn in in the Narendra Modi cabinet, which has been sworn in as the Prime Minister for the third consecutive term. Among them, Nehru family prince, former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who mentioned some of the names, said, “Success, service, and sacrifice for generations. Those who say it is our legacy have given place to heirs in the government family. This is the difference between Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s words and actions.”
Rahul Gandhi should first understand what is ‘succession politics’. It cannot be said that the son, daughter or family of someone who is in politics should not join politics. Don’t even say. Any Indian citizen who is eligible to vote can join politics. Can contest elections. Can come to any post. It is a fundamental right given by the Constitution of India.
But succession politics is when one family continues to control a party or government. That is what BJP opposes. After 1947 when India gained independence and formed a government for us, for the last 77 years the Congress party has been under the control of one family namely Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, his daughter Indira Gandhi, his son Rajiv Gandhi, his wife Sonia Gandhi and their son Rahul Gandhi.
Whenever the Congress party was in power, a member of the Nehru family was the Prime Minister. Or members of the Nehru family will be in a position to control the Prime Minister. Everyone knows that Manmohan Singh was the puppet Prime Minister for 10 years from 2004 to 2014. It is a well-known secret that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were really in power during those 10 years. Fascism is the direct opposite of this democracy and is the successor politics. Family politics. This is what the BJP is against. Will continue to resist.
Is this happening in BJP? Jana Sangam was started in 1951. First in 1980 it became BJP. From that day till today, no one knows who will be the leader of BJP the way he is elected. None of the successors of the former BJP National Presidents have come to the post of President. No one knows who will be the next BJP leader. But everyone knows who will be the leader after next 50 years in Congress. This is succession politics. This is what the BJP is against.
Congress came to power in 1984 after Indira Gandhi’s assassination, winning more than 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. After that, the Congress party did not get a single majority in 10 Lok Sabha elections held in 1989, 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014, 2019 and 2024. Even in the 1991 Lok Sabha elections held after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, the Congress did not get a majority. Since 1989, people have been ignoring the Congress party.
The reason for this is that the party is held by a family. Not wanting to be a slave to the Sonia family, Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal, Sarath Pawar in Maharashtra and Jaganmohan Reddy in Andhra Pradesh started separate parties to defeat the Congress party itself. The reason why these leaders, who started a separate party and had the power to defeat the Congress party, could not achieve it from within the Congress party was the dominance of a single family. This is succession politics. Family politics. This is what the BJP is against. Will continue to resist.
Rahul Gandhi has included BJP National President JP Natta, who is currently the Union Health Minister, in the political list of successors. He was involved in Akila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad student organization from his college days and entered politics. Like Rahul Gandhi, he was not born in the Prime Minister’s house. He has gradually worked his way up to the height of BJP National President due to his talent.
When Karunanidhi, who held DMK for 49 years, passed away, his son M.K. The party went to Stalin. M.K.Stalin, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Sarath Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, most of the parties in the ‘Indy’ coalition are controlled by one family. A member of that family, whether qualified or not, becomes the next leader of the party. Government formation ends with the Chief Minister.
If Rahul Gandhi is the general secretary and MP of the Congress party, if the power of the party is really with Mallikarjuna Kharge, then it is not succession politics. Duraimurugan was the president of DMK and A. Raza was the chief minister and M.K. was the party’s deputy general secretary and minister. If there is Stalin it is not succession politics. But, on the contrary, ‘Karunanidhi – Stalin – Udayanidhi’ means ‘Father – Son – Grandson’ are taking over the party and the government. Due to this, even senior leaders like Duraimurugan, who has been running politics since Anna’s time, have to abide by Udayanidhi. It is this misery that the BJP opposes.
Rahul Gandhi needs to explain why anyone outside the Nehru family can take any decision in the Congress party. Because, leaving Mallikarjuna Kharge as the leader, all the decisions are taken by Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka from the selection of candidates. Sonia and Rahul Priyanka sit in the important meetings of the Congress party’s executive committee and general committee. A scene like this cannot be seen in BJP for a single day.
For more than three-quarters of a century, a party under family control and treating others like slaves, to say there is succession politics in the BJP is like throwing stones from a glass house. People will laugh at Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of BJP as succession politics,” he said.
