India is hosting the World Heritage Committee meeting for the first time. More than 2000 national and international delegates from more than 150 countries will attend the meeting.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee tomorrow at 7 pm at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Prime Minister will address the event. UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay attends the opening ceremony.
India is hosting World Heritage Committee meeting for the first time. It will be held from tomorrow to 31st at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The World Heritage Committee meets once a year.
It is held to administer all matters relating to World Heritage and to decide which sites should be inscribed on the World Heritage List. In this meeting, the designation of new sites in the World Heritage Site List, conservation status reports of the existing 124 World Heritage Sites, international assistance, utilization of World Heritage Fund etc. will be discussed. More than 2000 international and national delegates from more than 150 countries are participating in this meeting.
Alongside the World Heritage Committee meeting, the World Heritage Young Professionals Forum and the World Heritage Site Managers Forum are also held.
Also, various exhibitions will be set up in Bharat Mandapam to showcase the culture of India. Repatriated Treasures will showcase some of the recovered artefacts brought back to the country.
More than 350 artifacts have been recovered so far. Also, by using latest technologies, Rani Ki Vau, Patan, Gujarat; Kailasa Temple, Ellora Caves, Maharashtra; Hoysala Temple, Halipedu, Karnataka 3 world heritage sites of India will be offered immersive experience. Also, the ‘Amazing India’ exhibition will be organized to highlight India’s rich cultural heritage, ancient civilization, geographical diversity, tourist destinations, IT and modern developments in infrastructure.
