Naveen Patnaik has been the Chief Minister of Odisha for the past 24 years and the BJP won the recent elections. Following this, BJP’s Mohan Maji has been selected as Odisha Chief Minister.
Odisha has a total of 147 assembly constituencies. If you want to take over the government, you have to win in 74 constituencies. In that way, the BJP won a majority in the recently held assembly elections. That means BJP won 78 seats. Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal won 51 seats. Congress won 14 seats, Independents 3 seats and CPM one seat.
This ended the Biju Janata Dal’s rule of 24 years. Also there has been a change of government in Odisha. Naveen Patnaik has resigned from the post of Chief Minister due to his defeat in the assembly elections. After this, Mohan Charan Maji will take office as the new Chief Minister. Maji has been elected as its president in the recent assembly party meeting of BJP.
He will take office tomorrow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also participate in this function. BJP refers to Mohan Majhi as an ‘energetic party worker’. Mohan, 53, belongs to a tribal community. Although his political career started in the 90s, he was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly only in the year 2000.
He has served as MLA for 4 times. During his tenure as an MLA, he was widely known as a skilled politician. Due to this, he started looking for positions. In particular, from 2005 to 2009, he was given the responsibility of Deputy Chief Whip during the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) coalition government with the BJP.
He was associated with the RSS organization during his school days. He served in many important sub-organisations of the RSS during his youth. There are many works done by him to bring Hinduism seriously and at the same time to the people of Odisha. It is noteworthy that he has been given the responsibility of Chief Minister this time considering all these.
