Rumors that Dharmendra Pradhan is likely to be chosen as the BJP Chief Minister of Odisha have been hit hard. However, there are reports that the BJP top brass has set up another account.
Lok Sabha elections were also held in Odisha. The BJP alliance has won 78 of the total 147 assembly constituencies in Odisha. Biju Janata Dal won only 51 seats. Congress won 14 seats, Marxist-Communist 1 and Independents 3.
In Odisha, the BJP has won 78 of the 74 seats it needs to win to rule with a majority. With this, the BJP has come to power in Odisha for the first time. Naveen Patnaik, who has been the Chief Minister since 2000 after winning 5 elections, has resigned from his post.
BJP in power for the first time: The BJP has won power in Odisha for the first time, defeating Naveen Patnaik’s BJD. BJP has won power in Odisha for the first time defeating Biju Janata Dal which has been in power for 5 consecutive terms. After this, the expectation has arisen as to who will be the next chief minister of Odisha.
Among the prominent figures of Odisha BJP, 7 leaders are in the race for chief ministerial candidate. Former Union Minister and BJP sitting MP Jewel Oram, BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra, BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda, BJP President Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal, Odisha Leader of Opposition Jayanarayan Mishra, Former IAS Officer Girish Murmu. They are in the race for the post of Chief Minister.
Dharmendra Pradhan: Dharmendra Pradhan contested the Sambalpur Lok Sabha seat and won by a margin of one lakh votes. He served as Union Minister of Education and Skill Development. He was elected MLA in 2000 and MP in 2004. After failing in 2009, he became Rajya Sabha MP. He has been in charge of Bihar, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand states of BJP.
Jewel Oram: Jewel Oram has won the Sundargarh Lok Sabha seat by a huge margin. Amid speculations that he would be ahead in the race for the post of chief minister, Oram has said that he does not aspire to the post of chief minister but would serve if given the job.
Apart from them, MPs Aparajitha Sarangi and Pratap Sarangi are also in talks for the post of Chief Minister. However, it is said that the BJP does not want to lose the MP in the context of forming a government at the center with the support of an alliance without a majority. Due to this, it is said that Dharmendra Pradhan and Jewel Oram will not be elected for the post of Chief Minister.
Dharmendra Pradhan’s background and managerial experience does not give him much of a chance. Dharmendra Pradhan’s constituency Sambalpur is considered one of the safest seats for the BJP in the state. But if he is elected, he will have to face a by-election in Odisha, so the BJP seems to be thinking higher.
Preparations are in full swing for the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister at Janata Maidan, the biggest park in Odisha capital Bhubaneswar.
