The temple is built on government-owned land at an altitude of 16,500 feet on the Sundartunga Glacier in Bageshwar, Uttarakhand. Baba Yogi Chaitanya Akash built this temple in violation of government regulations.
A news package about it.
Bageshwar is a city in Uttarakhand located at the confluence of Sarayu and Gomati rivers.
Situated at the foothills of the Himalayan range, Bageshwar has natural beauty. Bageshwar is home to the oldest Hindu temples of Shiva, Bagnath and Baijnath.
Every year in the month of Panguni, the Bighoudi Mela is celebrated with much fanfare in Bageshwar. The highlight of the festival is the traditional Kumaoni dance, a popular folk dance of the region.
Located in Kumaon region at the foothills of the Himalayas, Bageshwar is a city of natural beauty. The natural beauty is full of majestic mountains, lush green valleys and beautiful rivers. Pindari Glacier and Sundertunga Glacier in Bageswar are popular trekking destinations.
The temple has been built against the norms on government-owned land at an altitude of 16,500 feet on the Sundartunga glacier, which boasts of such natural beauty. Baba Yogi Chaitanya Akash, a self-proclaimed god, built this temple.
He claims that Bhagavathymman appeared in his dream and ordered him to build a temple at Devi Kundam on the Sundartunga glacier, and he has secured the support of the local villagers for the temple construction project.
This Devi Gundam is a very sacred place of worship not only for local people but also for Hindus. The sacred Devi Gundam is now Baba’s swimming pool. Local people alleged that Baba’s bath in Devi Kund was an insult not only to Goddess Bhagwati but also to Hinduism.
Also, some of the locals have protested that for centuries, their deities visit Devi Kund during the Nandaraj Yatra once in 12 years, and this Baba has misled the villagers and built this temple against their tradition.
Due to people’s opposition, the government has started its investigation into this temple, which was built without proper government permission.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Anurag Arya said that a team of Forest Department, Police and Revenue Office will soon visit Devi Kund to remove the encroachment and assured that appropriate action will be taken against Baba Yogi Chaitanya Akash soon.
Such individuals encroachment of mineral rich lands in the name of temple of their own accord without obtaining proper permission is shocking in places of Indian heritage.
