Ever since the Lok Sabha election results were announced, there has been a lot of excitement in Maharashtra state politics. With Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray boycotting the “India” alliance meeting and NCP’s Ajit Pawar boycotting the BJP’s National Democratic Alliance meeting, the political landscape in Maharashtra is set to change drastically.
No party got the majority to form the government at the center in the Lok Sabha elections. BJP Telugu Desam, which won 240 seats, is set to form a new coalition government with the support of United Janata Dal.
Shiv Sena break: Before the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had dominated the politics of the state in a big Rudratandavamadi campaign in Maharashtra. Uddhav Thackeray-led Congress and Sarath Pawar’s Nationalist Congress were in coalition government. Then BJP split Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena into two. Shiv Sena’s MLAs and MPs gathered in the disgruntled party led by Eknath Shinde. Following this, Uddhav Thackeray was overthrown and a new government was formed by the BJP-Eknath Shinde coalition.
NCP break: BJP not standing still. It also broke Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress. Under the leadership of Sarath Pawar’s nephew Ajit Pawar, the BJP broke that party and made Ajit Pawar the Deputy Chief Minister.
Maharashtra Result: The BJP faced the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra along with the fractured Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress parties. In Maharashtra, BJP failed to get the expected election results.
Maharashtra Election Results (Total 48 Seats)
Congress 13
BJP 9
Uddhav Thackeray Shiv Sena 9
Sarathpawar Nationalist Congress 8
Eknath Shinde Shiv Sena 7
Ajit Pawar Nationalist Congress 1
Independence- 1
Defeated Ajit Pawar: One of the reasons why the BJP has to fumble for a majority to form the government at the center is the failure to get the expected election results in Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar, who broke the Nationalist Congress, suffered a major defeat in this election. Ajit Pawar fielded his wife against Sarathpawar’s daughter Supriya Sule in Baramati constituency. But Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunitra lost badly by a margin of 1,58,333 votes.
Ajit Pawar: A meeting of National Democratic Alliance parties was held yesterday in Delhi under the leadership of Narendra Modi regarding the formation of a new government. Ajit Pawar of the Nationalist Congress abstained from participating in the meeting. Also, 11 Nationalist Congress MLAs who trusted Ajit Pawar are going back to Sharad Pawar’s team.
Uddhav Thackeray: On the other hand, a meeting of India’s alliance parties will be held in Delhi tomorrow. Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray will not participate in this meeting; Reports suggest that Uddhav Thackeray will boycott and return to the BJP alliance. He was able to win only a few seats because of his alliance with the Congress; Uddhav Thackeray has decided to return to the BJP alliance. Due to this there is excitement not only in Maharashtra but also in national politics.
