BJP’s Surosh Gopi had won the Thrissur constituency in Kerala in the Lok Sabha elections. In this case, he took oath as Union Minister today.
The BJP did not get a majority in the Lok Sabha elections. However, the BJP-led NDA alliance has secured a majority. Hence, Narendra Modi requested President Draupadi Murmu to form the government by giving a list of supporting MPs. With the President also calling for government formation, Narendra Modi was re-instated as the Prime Minister this evening.
After Nehru, Modi took office with the honor of becoming the Prime Minister for the third consecutive term. Similarly, 72 MPs are being selected as Union Ministers today. Only one MP from Kerala has been elected to the Union Cabinet.
The BJP has not won any Lok Sabha seat in the state since 1957 till 2024. But for the first time, BJP has won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Suresh Gopi, who contested on behalf of the BJP, is going to Parliament for the first time. He has also been given a seat in the Union Cabinet.
Suresh Gopi has defeated the CBI candidate who contested against him in Thrissur constituency by a margin of 74 votes. With this victory, for the first time Kerala BJP has a foothold. While the BJP did not get as much success as expected in the northern states, the victory in the southern state of Kerala has given the BJP comfort.
