The Zoravar light artillery, designed to support the Indian forces stationed in the Ladakh border area against China, has reached the final stages of production. Developed over a two-year period, the Zorawar is a testament to India’s progress in domestic military hardware production. A news collection about this.
Zoravar is an indigenously designed and developed light artillery. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has developed the Zoravar cannon.
Zorawar is named after the army general Zorawar Singh Singh who served under Raja Gulab Singh of Jammu in the 19th century. The Zoravar is designed to carry a maximum weight of 25 tonnes.
From high mountain peaks to island regions, the Zoravar is designed to perform at high speed in various terrains.
Built with all the latest technologies like artificial intelligence, drone integration, high-level situational awareness and amphibious maneuverability.
The Defense Research and Development Authority has successfully test-fired the Indian Army’s modern light Zoravar cannon at Hazira in the state of Gujarat.
In the trial held last Saturday, the Zoravar cannon was loaded with ammunition and its performance was tested. Also, reviewing the progress of the Zorawar project, DRTO Chairman Dr. Sameer V Kamath said that various tests like artillery operations in winter and tests at high altitudes have been successfully completed.
The Zoravar tests may take up to 18 months to complete and the first full cycle will take about one to one and a half years to complete. Therefore, he also expressed hope that Zorawar will be inducted into the Indian Army by 2027.
In the first phase, 59 artillery pieces will be inducted into the Indian Army, and in the next phase, Zorawar will lead the major program of 295 armored vehicles.
Although the first ammunition was procured from Belgium, DRTO has now decided to manufacture the ammunition locally and has taken steps to do so.
Zoravar is the first light artillery designed in India under the MADE IN INDIA programme. According to an Indian Army report, at least 354 Zoravars are planned to be procured.
Subsequently, the Indian Army also said that the possibility of buying 700 Zoravars as a next step is strong. India is looking forward to producing Zoravar to help counter China.
With more than 500 light artillery units already in production, China continues to ramp up production.
It is said that these light artillery will be the most suitable military equipment for both the countries especially in case of war in the high border areas like Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Tawang and Arunachal Pradesh.
It is seen as India’s achievement that this Zorawar has been developed internally to prevent the Chinese conflict on the Indian border.
