The Hosur – Bommasandra metro rail project is in the final stages of preparing its detailed feasibility report. The proposed metro line will connect Hosur in Tamil Nadu to Bommasandra in Karnataka, covering a distance of approximately 23 kilometers, with 11 kilometers in Tamil Nadu and the remaining 12 kilometers in Karnataka. The project, estimated to cost around ₹6,900 crores, has been recommended by Chennai Metro Rail Corporation and is being undertaken with the approval of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the Government of Tamil Nadu.
The metro line will feature 12 stations and a depot, linking suburban train and bus stations in Bengaluru, as well as connecting to the Bengaluru airport line. This metro service is expected to enhance transportation connectivity between Hosur and Bengaluru, benefiting students, workers, and various other commuters. Hosur, which is about 39 kilometers from Bengaluru, is known for its better roads and less traffic compared to Bengaluru.
However, there are concerns that Karnataka may oppose the project. Some Kannada groups and urban development experts believe that the metro line might impact Bengaluru’s economic interests, as Hosur could see significant economic growth and potentially surpass Bengaluru in development once the metro service is operational. If opposition arises, MoHUA, as the parent body of all metro networks in India, is expected to support and help implement the Hosur-Bommasandra metro link.
Overall, the project aims to boost the economic prospects of Hosur and improve connectivity for residents of both states.
