BJP State President Annamalai has said that the DMK government, for the benefit of their Hindi alliance, is keeping silent without pressuring the Karnataka Congress government to provide Cauvery water.
In his X post about this,
When the DMK ally Congress came to power in the state of Karnataka, it stopped the supply of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
As a result, the Mettur Dam, which was supposed to be opened in the first two weeks of June for the annual cultivation of Kuruvai, was not opened on time last year. Due to this, the crops were scorched and the farmers suffered a lot. This year too, Mettur Dam, which was supposed to be opened on June 12, was not opened.
The DMK government, for the benefit of their Hindi alliance, has been keeping silent without pressuring the Karnataka Congress government to provide Cauvery water. Currently, due to heavy rains, the Karnataka Congress government has opened the Cauvery water.
Following this, yesterday, Minister Nehru announced the release of 12,000 cubic feet of water from Mettur Dam. But, at present, only 6,276 cubic feet of water has been released from Mettur Dam.
12,000 cubic feet of water has been announced, but only half of it has been released. Thus, it is questionable whether the water will reach the market.
Also, the release of water in the Western and Eastern canals will greatly benefit the farmers of Salem, Erode and Namakkal districts. However, it is learned that water has not been opened in the western and eastern canals yet.
As the water is not released at the right time, but when the dam is full, the water is wasted and mixed with the sea without benefiting the farmers.
Therefore, Annamalai has urged the DMK government to release 12,000 cubic feet of water as announced, and to release water in the western and eastern canals as well.
