Both Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar are actively trying to get the post of Lok Sabha Speaker in the BJP alliance.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sworn in for the third term yesterday along with his entire cabinet.
With the Lok Sabha elections over, the BJP-led National Democratic Progressive Alliance has formed the government at the centre. Modi took charge as Prime Minister for the 3rd time yesterday. President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath to him. Along with him, 72 people from BJP and allied parties took charge as Union Ministers.
Full Cabinet: The 72-member cabinet headed by Narendra Modi has taken office. Modi, 30 Union Ministers, 5 Chief Ministers with individual responsibility and 36 Chief Ministers have taken office as Prime Minister.
18 cabinet posts have been given to alliance parties while the BJP did not get a personal majority. The entire cabinet has taken office while not all ministers are expected to take office. The full ministerial strength was expected to be between 78 and 81. Accordingly, a 72-member cabinet headed by Narendra Modi has taken office.
Who is the Speaker?: At this stage the question arises as to who is the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Choosing the post of Lok Sabha Speaker is tough. The post of Speaker should be non-partisan. At the same time, when a minority government is formed, there is a danger of the government falling anytime during coalition rule.
Mainly there are chances of no-confidence motion, horse-trading, disqualification of MPs. This makes the post of Speaker important.
Naidu Project: It is in this situation that both Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar are actively trying to get the speaker post in the BJP alliance. Both see the post of “Speaker” as “insurance” for themselves.
In the last 10 years BJP has overthrown many governments. It has overthrown many state governments. BJP has been instrumental in the defection of Lok Sabha MPs from many state parties. Many parties are breaking up.
In this case, the Speaker has the power to disqualify MPs who violate the whip order and vote for an alternative party. Even the court cannot interfere in this. For example suppose Telugu Desam withdraws support for BJP rule in future.
Then Telugu Desam can divide BJP MPs and pull them to their side. Thus there are chances that Telugu Desam MPs will defy the whip order and vote for BJP. If the Telugu Desam MP is the Speaker at such a time.. he can disqualify the MPs who vote by switching sides. If it is a BJP MP..Telugu Desam will disqualify MPs and even support MPs who switch sides.
The same is the case with Nitish Kumar’s party. Due to this both Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar are actively trying to get the speaker post in the BJP alliance.
As a result, both of them have strongly asked for the post of Speaker. No matter what happens, they are firmly asking us for the post of Speaker.
We don’t need a big cabinet.. We want the post of Speaker mainly Chandrababu Naidu is firm.
