5 people who came to watch the aerial adventure program held at Chennai Marina beach have tragically died due to overcrowding and heatstroke. Where did the mistake happen? Is the government’s improper planning responsible for the casualties? See in detail in this news package….
On the occasion of the 92nd anniversary of the Indian Air Force, a grand air adventure was held at Chennai Marina Beach on Sunday.
Rehearsals for the air adventure were held on 1st, 2nd and 4th October as the city of Chennai prepared for the coordination of the program for the last 10 days.
As a result, people flocked from all over Tamil Nadu to witness the aerial adventure program which started on Sunday morning. The Metro and Railway Departments were in trouble due to the crowding of easels at the Metro Railway Stations and Electric Railway Stations.
The Metro Rail Administration, which has recovered, has started running the Metro train every three and a half minutes, which was running every 7 minutes as per the Sunday schedule. But the Southern Railway management, without any concern about the crowd, ran the electric trains on Sunday schedule. This was the main reason for the overcrowding at the Chennai Electric Railway Stations.
As lakhs of people thronged the Marina beach, many people including children, women and the elderly had to face countless hardships. Hundreds fainted, suffocated by the crowd and dehydrated by the heat.
When the heat reached its peak, the people were unable to cope with its ferocity and without money in hand, without food or water, the people wandered around.
A large number of people have been admitted to Omandurar Government Hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital due to ill health, so far 5 people have tragically died.
The question that prevails in everyone’s mind is whether the Tamil Nadu government has shown negligence in providing security to the people including the Chief Minister, Ministers and other VIPs who participated in the air adventure program.
In spite of the fact that lakhs of visitors are expected to gather to watch the aerial adventure program, the Tamil Nadu government has taken a lax approach to the safety of the people without proper planning.
The public accused the government of having gathered the police around the Marina beach and thinking that the duty was done, and failed to give any notice and precautions to the visitors who came to the beach.
The people who flocked to make the aerial adventure a record-breaking event were eventually forced to leave the crowd thinking it was the record of our lifetime. It must be said that the entire city of Chennai came to a standstill due to traffic jams on all four sides as lakhs of people wanted to return home at the same time after the event. Vehicles covered a distance of just 500 meters in 2 hours.
The Chennai Police had given an explanation on the way to the air adventure event which attracted more than 15 lakh visitors and made it into the Limca Book of Records, saying, “It was the usual crowd” as always.
Health Minister M. Subramanian, who went one step further, raised the blood pressure of the people by posting on the X site that the Tamil Nadu government had provided more security for the air adventure program than the Air Force had said.
Journalists have opined that government administrations have failed to show the air adventure show the diligence shown in the protection given to the Formula 4 car race, despite the government’s support.
In the midst of all these rumors, the question remains unanswered until the end… Who will answer the lost lives?
