238 people lost their lives in a landslide in Wayanad, Kerala.
Due to continuous rains in Wayanad district of Kerala, landslides occurred in Suralmalai and Mundagai areas yesterday.
About 400 families belonging to 3 villages are said to have been trapped in this landslide. Various parties including fire brigade and National Disaster Response Force are involved in the rescue work.
Similarly, the Indian Army is also engaged in rescue operations. While more than 200 people have died so far, it is feared that more than 500 people may be trapped inside. More than 250 injured people are undergoing treatment in nearby hospitals.
In this case, the rescue team sent by the Tamil Nadu government reached Wayanad. These teams are also engaged in rescue operations.
In connection with the Wayanad landslide, it has been announced that 2 days of mourning will be observed in Kerala. Following this, the national flag was flown at half-mast in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
