Thala Sayanath Thirukolam is one of the 10 types of Sayanath Thirukolam in Tirumala. In this Arul Kolam, Perumal is visible, the temple is Mamallapuram Thala Sayana Perumal Temple. Now let’s see about this temple which is the 63rd holy place among 108 divine lands.
Thala Sayana Perumal Thirukoil is located at Mamallapuram, a world famous tourist destination in Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu.
This temple is about 2000 years old and the history of the temple says that in the 14th century AD, one of the kings of Vijayanagara, King Barangusan, built this temple and worshiped it according to the rules of Agama.
This temple is the shrine of Bhuthathalwar, who is the second among the three Alvars, and there are separate shrines for all 12 Alvars.
It is worth noting that Bhutathathalwar, which is the weapon in Tirumal’s hand, has performed Mangalasasana for only 13 of the 108 Divvya Desams.
In this temple, where the punnai tree is the tala tree and the pundarika is the pushkarani tirtha, Sridevi presents a scene without Bhudevi in the kolam where Sayanab Perumal was lying. And he holds his four-armed right hand on his chest as a teaching seal.
Perumal is known by the name of Utsavara Ulakuiyya Nayaan. On either side of him, Nila Mangai Thayar and Andal are seen.
There are shrines of Anjaneya, Lakshmi Narasimha, Rama and Garuda in the outer prakaram of the temple.
Thala history says that in the 7th century, the Pallava king Malleswaran stopped the regular supply of food, so the people died of starvation, and due to the curse of angry Vainava elders, the king was living as a crocodile in the pond there, and he got rid of the curse by plucking a 1000-petalled lotus flower from Pundarika Maharishi.
Therefore, in this temple, in Pushkarani Theppakulam, the Tirupatham of Pundarika Maharishi, the Theppa Utsavam to Thala Sayana Perumal is still being held on Masi Mahatham.
This is why Puranas say that on the day of Mahalaya Amavasi, if you offer tithi in this temple, you will get many times more merit than what you get by offering tithi at Kashi Rameswaram and Gaya.
Festivals related to Perumal including Vaikunda Ekadasi festival, Chitrai festival are being held in this temple.
It is said that if you come to this temple and worship Thala Sayana Perumala and Nilamangai Thayar, the problems related to land, property and house will be solved and Vetu Manai Vahana Yoga will occur.
Devotees also say that if you visit this temple on Swathi Nakshatra day, you can get rid of debt problems.
