The World Health Organization had declared monkeypox as an international health emergency yesterday.
Measles is an infectious disease caused by a virus. In Africa, 13 countries have been diagnosed with monkeypox in children and the elderly this year. So far 524 people have been killed. More than 14 thousand people have been affected.
This new form of the virus that is spreading in African countries has spread from Congo to neighboring countries including Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda. However, low vaccine doses are available in Africa.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says it’s something we should all be concerned about. It was recently said that the virus has the potential to spread beyond Africa, which is more regrettable.
In this context, the World Health Organization declared monkeypox as an international health emergency yesterday. In this case, for the first time outside of Africa, the incidence of monkeypox has been confirmed in Sweden. This virus belongs to clade 1.
The outbreak of the Claud 1 virus in Sweden is a clear example of how interconnected we are in our world, according to a report published by the WHO European Regional Office.
The report suggests that clade 1 outbreaks are likely to increase in European regions in the coming days and weeks.
