The army chief has said that the interim government headed by Mohammad Yunus will take office in Bangladesh tomorrow.
Bangladesh was ruled by Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina. Meanwhile, a protest broke out against the provision of 30 percent reservation in government jobs to the family members of those who participated in the country’s liberation war. As the protest intensified, Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister and took refuge in India.
After Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister, President Mohammad Sahabuddin ordered the dissolution of the country’s parliament. Also, the President held talks with the commanders of the three armies and the representatives of the student group involved in the protest yesterday regarding the formation of the interim government. During these talks, it was decided to appoint Nobel laureate economist Mohammad Yunus as the head of the interim government.
Subsequently, the President of Bangladesh appointed Muhammad Yunus as the head of the interim government. Army Commander Waqar Us Zaman has said that the interim government headed by Mohammad Yunus will take office tomorrow. Earlier today, the army chief told reporters, “The inauguration of the interim government is expected to take place at 8 pm tomorrow. The advisory committee may have 15 members.”
