It has been reported that 60 people have died due to a dam failure in eastern Sudan.
At least 60 people have died after the collapse of the Arbad Dam in eastern Sudan yesterday, causing severe flooding. Hundreds more are reported missing.
In this regard, Omar Isa Tahir, head of the Red Sea State Water Corporation, said, “Villages near Port Sudan, the capital of the state, have been devastated due to the dam failure. Rescue teams are working with the priority of evacuating the flood victims.
Immediate rescue operations are required in the dam area and surrounding villages. People who escape from the water are at risk of scorpion and snake bites.
Meanwhile, heavy rains caused the dam to collapse, causing severe flooding with silt, destroying nearby villages. Local media reported that this has made rescue efforts difficult.
Located about 20 kilometers north of Port Sudan, the dam had a reservoir capacity of 25 million cubic meters. It is also notable that it was the main source of water for the city.
