With violence rampant in Bangladesh, many police stations across the country are undermanned.
Bangladesh was ruled by the Awami League government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In this case, the issue of 30 percent reservation in government jobs erupted violently. Against this, students and a section of the people started protesting.
In this, 300 people died last July. In this case, the last 5-day protest intensified. In this, the protestors chanted slogans demanding Hasina’s resignation. In this, more than a hundred protesters died. Many were injured.
Following the violence, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned. However, Parliament and the Prime Minister’s House were ransacked by the protesters. Hasina fled the country with her sister. He has taken refuge in India.
Even after this, hundreds of people died in the violence in the country. In this context, protesters have looted 400 police stations in Bangladesh in the last 2 days. It is reported that 50 policemen have died. Amid the ongoing political turmoil in the country, the guards sought refuge.
Due to this, many police stations in the country have no police officers at all. According to Dhaka Tribune, many senior officials who were close to the Awami League government, which had ruled before, have also snuck in.
Arms and explosives were looted by the violent mob. Buildings were set on fire. Various police stations belonging to Patta, Jatrabari, Wadara, Abador, Mirpur, Uttara East, Mohammadpur, Shah Ali and Baldan have been looted.
The police officers have expressed regret that they are being prevented from doing their job freely in enforcing law and order.
